About The Position

Ampersand Therapy is hiring a Special Education Teacher to support transition age students (18-22) in the Vernon Hills area in Illinois for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, 1.0 FTE position starts in August 2026 and involves providing individualized instruction, developing IEPs, and creating inclusive learning environments. The role is in-person, within a collaborative district and a supportive, therapist-run team.

Requirements

• Valid Illinois State teaching license (PEL) with Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement

• Strong classroom management and collaboration skills
• School-based experience preferred, not required

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs tailored to student needs
• Provide specialized instruction across academic subjects
• Manage classroom behavior and create a structured, supportive environment
• Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
• Write progress reports and maintain compliant documentation
• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for diverse learning needs
• Incorporate technology and resources to enhance learning
