About The Position

Merlin Day Academy is an intensive therapeutic day program providing education and therapeutic intervention in a supportive classroom environment for children ages 6–14 with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and other neurodiverse needs. Its relationship-based, family-centered approach helps students build skills for success in their community and beyond. The Special Education Teacher designs and implements individualized education plans (IEPs) in a classroom setting to support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. The role is clinic-based in Chicago and follows a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no evenings or weekends. The position offers a stated total compensation package valued at $80,000–$87,000, including an annual salary of $65,000–$70,000 based on experience and qualifications, plus benefits and other compensation elements described in the posting.

Requirements

Master’s degree.
Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
Experience working with neurodiverse students.
Ability to lift 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized classroom instruction and instructional coaching.
Design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
Support students in meeting Illinois State Learning Standards.
Collaborate with the therapy team, caregivers, and professionals to maximize learning.
