About The Position

Granby Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our RISE Program (Reaching Independence through Support and Education), an in-district program serving students in grades PK–5 with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities. The RISE Program provides a highly structured, supportive learning environment focused on academic growth, communication, social-emotional development, adaptive skills, and independence. Small class sizes and individualized programming allow staff to meet each student's unique needs through evidence-based practices.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut certification in Special Education.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering student independence and meaningful participation in school and community settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with AAC and other functional communication systems.
  • ABA-informed instructional and behavioral strategies.
  • Structured teaching approaches and visual supports.
  • Social skills instruction and adaptive behavior development.
  • Collaborative work within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement instruction aligned with students' IEP goals.
  • Provide individualized, evidence-based instruction in academics, communication, social skills, and adaptive living skills.
  • Create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student progress and use data to guide instruction.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, families, and school staff.
  • Implement positive behavioral supports and individualized behavior plans.
  • Differentiate instruction to address diverse learning, communication, sensory, and behavioral needs.
  • Support student participation in inclusive school activities when appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with special education regulations and district policies.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and program improvement efforts.
