About The Position
ACES has a vacancy for a Special Education Teacher at Whitney Academy in Hamden, CT. ACES Whitney Academy is dedicated to serving students from ages 14 to 21 who exhibit a range of cognitive, physical, behavioral, language and medical challenges. In addition to its academic mission, the school places a strong emphasis on transition to life and work including self-advocacy and self-determination. These areas establish the foundation for all student programming. The program also functions within the three transition areas (employment, independent living, and community participation), which are foremost in planning for our students.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of teaching strategies
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of assessment
- Knowledge of IEP components
- Knowledge of planning for engagement
- CT Special Education certification (165) required
- Candidates currently enrolled in a Special Education Teacher preparation program and eligible for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP) will be considered
