About The Position

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing effective lesson plans, supervising paraprofessionals, managing the classroom's Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program, and maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment. This role involves attending IEP meetings, collaborating with staff and external agencies, planning instruction based on data, and participating in ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid CA Special Education Credential (Intern, Preliminary, Clear, Level 1, Level 2 acceptable).
  • Educational Specialist Credential in Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe disabilities, depending on classroom assignment.
  • 2-5 years working with students with learning and/or social-emotional needs.
  • Experience in running a special day class and implementing curriculum and behavior interventions.
  • Proficient in written and verbal English, including business writing and professional communication.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer-literate with knowledge of standard software applications and internet.
  • DOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education strongly recommended.
  • Pro-Act, CPI, and/or CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create effective lesson plans to be submitted each Friday for the following week, accommodating various student levels, including procedures for assessing knowledge, outlining content standards, and specifying curriculum.
  • Oversee and direct paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
  • Manage the classroom's Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program, including tracking behavior points, maintaining the student store, and communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Ensure daily documentation of behavioral data in Point Quest's database.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that prioritizes student engagement and safety, implementing the behavior plan, modifying state-adopted curriculum, and employing strategies to effectively teach students with various disabilities.
  • Attend IEP meetings for students assigned to the classroom.
  • Write updates for each student's annual IEP in coordination with the school district.
  • Enter all IEP updates (Present Levels, BIP, ITP, and Goals) into SEIS 7 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and outside agencies to effectively educate each student.
  • Plan instruction and design learning experiences based on data.
  • Conduct summative assessments with each student no less than three times per year.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities, including twice-monthly teacher meetings and monthly all-staff trainings.
