About The Position

Fremont Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Milliken Park Elementary, serving grades K-4. This full-time contract position begins on July 29, 2026. The role involves planning and implementing programming for students with special needs and/or disabilities to help them develop academically and socially. The teacher will also develop and implement pre-vocational skills activities. The position requires collaboration with other staff, communication with parents, and maintaining accurate student records. The teacher will be responsible for creating a conducive learning environment, assessing student progress, and adhering to district policies. Requirements

  • Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Special Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree.
  • Knowledge of psycho-educational diagnosis, instructional techniques and materials, methods for individualizing instruction, and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Knowledge in behavior modification and management.
  • Regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job.
  • Ability to perform the identified tasks and possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.
  • Skillful in assessment, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of various cognitive, behavioral, and physical disabilities.
  • Demonstrates effective conflict management, problem solving, evaluation, organizational, and decision making skills.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work authorization required.

  • Training and teaching in areas of regular and special education with emphasis on Specific Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, and At-Risk Students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement necessary and appropriate programming to direct students with special needs and/or disabilities to become competent in all areas of academic and social development.
  • Develop and implement appropriate pre-vocational skills activities.
  • Meet and instruct assigned students at the locations and times designated.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
  • Plan a program of study and assist in modifications that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Utilize a variety of assessment techniques suitable to the curriculum content, including modification of curriculum when required for special needs students.
  • Assist in the diagnosis of disabilities for students and seek the assistance of District specialists as required.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and suggest modifications as needed.
  • Plan and supervise appropriate assignments for teacher assistants.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies governing student conduct and activities.
  • Develop classroom rules of behavior and procedure, and maintain order.
  • Supervise and participate in fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
  • Follow policies, regulations, procedures, and expectations established by the Board and administration.
  • Address students’ personal hygiene needs (toileting, clothes changing, etc.).
  • Assess students' accomplishments regularly using various assessment methods and provide progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other required information.
  • Develop, write, and implement behavior modification programs.
  • Prepare records for individual students receiving services through the IEP process.
  • Communicate and consult with students, parents, and professional staff regarding educational programs, IEP/MDT processes, and other pertinent areas.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Participate in professional growth through ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Complete special projects and perform other responsibilities and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
