About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher specializing in Visual Impairment for the 2027-28 school year. The role involves providing specialized instruction and coordinating special education services for students with disabilities, with a focus on those with visual impairments. The teacher will serve as a case manager, develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure student success. This is a pool hire position, with hiring beginning October 1st, 2026.

Requirements

Missouri certification in one or a combination of the following areas: Mild-moderate disabilities (includes LD, BD/ED, MR, and OHI certifications), hearing impaired, visually impaired, or severe developmental disabilities.
Blind and partially sighted certificate.
Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Responsibilities

Serves as a case manager in developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities in the regular education classroom and separate special education classes or settings.
Communicates with regular education teachers and principals regarding the educational needs and programs of students with disabilities.
Collaborates with the school team to implement effective specialized teaching strategies for students with disabilities.
Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, the Director of Pupil Services, or the school principal.
Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations.
Participates in developing an annual budget request for instructional materials to implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities.
Initiates regular communication with parents of students with disabilities.
Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements.
Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
Complies with good safety practices.
Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.
