About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Teacher focusing on resource services. The role involves planning and providing appropriate learning experiences, supervising students, monitoring outcomes, and developing instructional plans to meet diverse student needs. The teacher will foster an environment conducive to student development and maintain professional competence. Key responsibilities include case management, data collection, IEP development, and adherence to special education legal procedures and school policies. The position is for a 10.5-month term and is classified as Exempt.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and meets Licensure requirements as established by the Maryland Department of Education.
  • Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies (e.g. Inclusion, Life Skills and Emotional Adjustment).
  • Evidence of exemplary human relation skills.
  • Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Provides case management by preparing and maintaining appropriate data collection records and IEPs.
  • Follows required procedures to include Special Education legal procedures and guidelines as outlined in IDEA and COMAR.
  • Follows required policies, procedures, and practices as outlined by Charles County Board of Education and the Charles County Department of Instruction and Special Education.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement, and Building Principal.
