About The Position

North Hudson Academy is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to teach high school social studies to students with special needs, ages 3 through 21, at a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school. The school serves students with behavioral and emotional issues, preschool handicaps, and learners on the Autism Spectrum. The role is part of the Instructional team and reports to the school principal. The position is exempt and scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., at North Hudson Academy in North Bergen, New Jersey. The annual compensation range is $61,000 to $80,000.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or Early Childhood Education.
New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped certification, or a valid New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility (CE), Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), or Standard Instructional Certificate in Social Studies (Endorsement Code: 2300).
Successful completion of Praxis testing.
Experience working with children with disabilities.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

Plan and carry out individual students’ IEPs and instructional programs.
Plan and manage the school’s therapeutic approach to individual and group discipline.
Coordinate and schedule activities with other staff.
Maintain and inventory classroom supplies and instructional materials.
Keep required records.
Write reports, meet with parents and professionals, and share professional information about individual students as required.
Participate in school meetings, conferences, and in-service activities.
