About The Position

Dedham Public Schools is looking for a talented educator to fill an Elementary Special Education position for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves planning, preparing, and delivering instructional activities that align with the District curriculum, establishing clear learning objectives, and utilizing technology to support instruction. The teacher will observe and evaluate student performance, provide feedback, encourage student progress, and maintain accurate records. Additionally, the position requires managing student behavior, participating in meetings, and communicating regularly with students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs. Collaboration with Special Education and Regular Education support staff is essential.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Special Education License (Moderate and/or Severe)
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Massachusetts Special Education Certification and Licensure
  • Experience with students with Language-based Learning disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities and Executive Functioning challenges
  • Successful completion of QBS/SafetyCare training preferred
  • Successful experience as a special educator including performing assessments using a variety of standardized protocols
  • Knowledge of state and federal special education regulations
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, parents/guardians, and others in the delivery of effective services
  • Strong behavior management skills

  • Prior classroom experience
  • Specialized reading training preferred - (Wilson Reading /Orton-Gillingham)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences through the District curriculum
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Collaborate with Special Education and Regular Education support staff
