About The Position

Woburn Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Reading Tutor to provide highly individualized reading tutorials to special education students. This role involves working in small group and 1:1 settings under the guidance of a special education teacher. The tutor will report directly to the Director of Student Services, Student Services Coordinators, and the Principal, and will collaborate closely with all school personnel. The position emphasizes direct, explicit, and data-driven instruction in literacy, with a focus on evaluating student progress and adjusting instruction as needed. The ideal candidate will be familiar with reading IEPs and maintain accurate student records, adhering to all district policies and state statutes. The role also includes participation in professional development and required meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
  • Knowledge of research-based best practices and interventions in literacy.
  • Experience working in a diverse educational setting, including the ability to work successfully with students, colleagues, and families from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Competence with technology tools and platforms, including Google applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and/or knowledge of various reading programs preferred (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, Lindamood Bell).
  • Familiarity with reading IEPs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, explicit, and data-driven instruction for special education students within the area of literacy.
  • Evaluate student progress through a variety of informal assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly, under the direction of a Special Education Teacher.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Plan and implement highly individualized reading tutorials, under the direction of a Special Education Teacher.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law and district policies.
  • Abide by state statutes, school committee policies, regulations, and WPS Employee Handbook.
  • Attend all required meetings and perform duties as assigned by Student Service’s Director and Building Administrator(s).
  • Perform all other duties as required by the Principal or WPS Administration.
