Reading Tutor
About The Position
40% of fourth graders in this country read below grade level. At OpenLiteracy, our mission is to change that, one student at a time. We offer a suite of products and services designed to meet students and educators where they are: a purchasable reading curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, Tier 2 intervention support for classroom educators, and high-impact, individualized Tier 3 tutoring. We don't just teach reading. We grow readers. We're looking for passionate, certified educators to join our tutoring team and make a real difference in children's literacy outcomes across the country.
Requirements
- Current or expired K–6 teaching certification (must be able to provide a copy)
- K-6 classroom teaching experience with a focus on reading
- Strong grounding in the Science of Reading: phonics, structured literacy, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction
- Able to provide at least 3 hours of consistent availability Monday-Thursday during peak hours (10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. ET), minimum 4 days/week
- Able to commit to at least 10 consistent hours per week
- U.S. work authorization, U.S. mailing address, and ability to receive U.S. bank deposits
- Reliable computer with camera and microphone, high-speed internet, and a quiet workspace
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Tier 3 reading intervention
- Experience teaching English Learners
- Experience supporting students with reading disabilities
Responsibilities
- Work 1:1 with students in grades K-6 through our secure online platform, using a curriculum designed by our team.
- Balance explicit instruction with meaningful engagement with text, weaving comprehension into every step so students can have rich, confident conversations at any reading level.
