About The Position

The Special Education Teacher/Reading Interventionist is responsible for providing comprehensive educational services to students with disabilities. This role combines classroom instruction, case management, and specialized literacy intervention. The teacher designs and delivers individualized, evidence-based instruction, adapts curriculum, and supports students in developing foundational and advanced academic skills. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and families is essential to promote student success across academic, behavioral, and functional domains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education (required); Reading Specialist endorsement preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of classroom management, instructional delivery, and structured literacy approaches.
  • Satisfactory Abuse, FBI and CBI record check.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage time effectively, and handle conflict or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist students using adaptive equipment when needed.
  • Ability to assume a variety of physical positions (e.g., standing, sitting, kneeling) for extended periods.
  • Capacity to implement behavior intervention strategies, including physical support when required and maintain full Safety Care Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between locations as needed.
  • Must have 5 years of Valid Driving experience and a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be willing to obtain Valid Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.
  • Ability to use computers and electronic systems for documentation and data collection.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in structured literacy programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham or similar).
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
  • Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction across a wide range of cognitive and language abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver daily lesson plans aligned with student needs.
  • Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction using research-based literacy interventions.
  • Use structured, multi-sensory, and explicit teaching strategies to support reading, writing, comprehension, and fluency.
  • Adapt curriculum, materials, and instruction to accommodate diverse learning profiles, communication styles, and sensory needs.
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student academic and reading abilities.
  • Monitor progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Oversee case management for a designated caseload of students.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), including literacy goals.
  • Ensure timely completion of all required documentation (e.g., data collection, progress reports, incident reports).
  • Align reading interventions with IEP objectives and student goals.
  • Collaborate with special educators, therapists, behavior specialists, and support staff to enhance service delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with families, guardians, school districts, and other stakeholders.
  • Support and mentor staff by modeling instructional strategies and providing literacy resources.
  • Provide direction and feedback to paraprofessionals and team members.
  • Maintain a structured, supportive, and predictable learning environment.
  • Implement behavior support strategies and respond effectively to crisis situations following established procedures.
  • Coordinate and implement Community-Based Curriculum Activities (CBCAs).
  • Ensure accountability of program resources and materials.
