About The Position

North Oak Academy, located in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional. As part of the National Heritage Academies network, the school focuses on a character-based approach to education, inspiring students to excel academically and think creatively. The dedicated teachers help students apply critical-thinking skills to solve real-world problems, preparing them for 21st-century challenges and success in college, life, and beyond. This position is scheduled for 35 hours per week.

Requirements

• Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
• Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
• Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications.

Responsibilities

• Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
• Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
• Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
• Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
• Assist with the required compliance documentation.
