Special Education Paraprofessional At Fortis Academy 2026-27 School Year
About The Position
This position is scheduled for 35 hours per week. Fortis Academy, located in Ypsilanti, MI, opened in 2005 and serves students K-8. At Fortis, you can connect passion with purpose. The role involves assessing student abilities and providing instructional and behavioral assistance in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups. The paraprofessional will commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially, and implement a result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability. This includes resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services. The role also requires attending professional development, specialized trainings, and IEP meetings, as well as assisting with compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications, preferred.
