About The Position
South Arbor Charter Academy is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2026-27 school year. This is a part-time position, 30 hours per week. Located in Ypsilanti, MI, South Arbor Charter Academy serves students from Young 5 to 8th grade. The academy has academically outperformed local districts for the past 14 years and offers access to a best-in-class curriculum, personalized development, and fosters a culture of community and family involvement. They provide a safe and nurturing environment with rigorous academic and moral expectations.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications.
Responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
- Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
- Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
- Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
- Assist with the required compliance documentation.
