2026-27 Special Education Paraprofessional
About The Position
The Special Education Paraprofessional is a key member of the Exceptional Student Services team and a champion for students with disabilities. This individual provides individualized academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support for students with mild to moderate disabilities across a variety of school settings. The paraprofessional supports the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and other individualized support plans with fidelity. This role helps students strengthen their academic skills, decrease behaviors that interfere with learning, and develop greater self-advocacy and self-regulation. The paraprofessional collaborates closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators and is directly supervised by the Director of Special Education.

Nice To Haves

- Previous experience supporting children or adolescents with disabilities
- Experience working in an urban public school

Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, highly targeted academic and behavioral support to students with mild to moderate disabilities in general education classrooms, small groups, and unstructured settings such as lunch and recess.
- Implement IEP accommodations, Behavior Intervention Plans, and individualized student support plans with consistency and fidelity.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy, coping, and self-regulation skills, including providing scheduled or responsive regulation breaks.
- Collect and document academic, behavioral, and IEP-related data to help the team monitor student progress and adjust supports.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to support student success.
- Participate in regular team meetings and professional development related to student progress, instructional practices, and support needs.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with families, service providers, and Vega staff.
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment that promotes respect, consistency, and continuous improvement.
