About The Position
Emerson Academy of Dayton, located in Dayton, OH, is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2026-27 School Year. This full-time position involves 35 hours per week. Emerson Academy, established in 2005, serves over 675 K-8 students annually and offers a supportive environment where staff can connect purpose with passion. The school is known for its experienced leadership, outperforming local districts on state tests, providing a high level of support for all staff, maintaining a safe learning environment with extensive camera surveillance, fostering high parent involvement, and offering behavioral support for teachers and students through ABSS and a Dean support model.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications.
Responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
- Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
- Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
- Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
- Assist with the required compliance documentation.
