The Paraprofessional - Special Education Tier 2 assists in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in regular or self-contained classrooms. This role involves supporting students by modeling necessary skills, reinforcing instruction, monitoring behavior, and communicating with school personnel. The paraprofessional adapts activities and materials, administers assessments, evaluates student progress, and maintains records. They also monitor students in various school environments to ensure a safe and positive learning atmosphere, participate in professional development, and perform clerical duties to support teachers. Additionally, they prepare and deliver individualized or small group instruction, promote good study and social-emotional habits, and research resources to determine appropriate instructional approaches. The role also includes responding to emergencies and inquiries, and serving as a source of information or substitute for the teacher.
