About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Paraeducator for the 2026-27 school year, serving Wahkiakum High School in the Wahkiakum School District. The role involves supporting students with disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education Teacher, assisting with lesson preparation, instruction, classroom management, student observation, assessment, and communication with parents and staff. The position is 31 hours per week on a school-year schedule, with a start date in August 2026. Regular attendance is crucial for student consistency and a positive learning environment. A complete application requires work history for the past 10 years, at least three professional references, a cover letter, resume, high school diploma or GED, and evidence of meeting educational requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Must meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) OR 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) ; OR Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).

Responsibilities

Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.
Supervise students.
Collect data and report student progress.
Maintain accurate data collection records.
Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
Participate as a member of the education team.
May attend parent conferences.
Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Other duties as assigned.
