This position is responsible for assisting certificated staff by performing instructional support tasks related to the students' educational development within the total school environment and by being a positive role model for students. The role involves providing instructional support for IEP students, focusing on reading, writing, math, and social/behavior skills. It also includes offering support and structure for students needing behavior and social skills assistance, helping students develop functional skills for independence, and implementing social skills training programs. The para-educator will assist certificated staff with record-keeping, material development, and preparing teaching aids, learning and independently carrying out instructional programs under the direction of a teacher. Collaboration with classroom teachers, assisting in student assessments, and monitoring student progress are key aspects of the role. Additionally, the position involves promoting positive public relations through communication.
