About The Position

LTS SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (ANCHOR PROGRAM) QUALIFICATIONS : Connecticut State Certification: #065/#165 Comprehensive Special Education PK-12, or #265 Comprehensive Special Education 1-12 COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: $150 per day first 10 days, then $207.30 - $581.62 per day depending on education and experience Eligible for sick time only if assignment exceeds 140 days APPROXIMATE DATES: October 5, 2026 - November 13, 2026 JOB GOAL : To develop in students those academic, social and emotional capacities that will enable them to become mature, able, and responsible adults

Requirements

  • Connecticut State Certification: #065/#165 Comprehensive Special Education PK-12, or #265 Comprehensive Special Education 1-12

Responsibilities

  • Implements district curriculum
  • Utilizes on going student assessment data to drive instruction
  • Plans instruction to achieve teacher and district objectives, and implements those objectives effectively
  • Uses a variety of effective teaching techniques and materials
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of subject matter
  • Communicates effectively with students
  • Motivates students effectively, and provides for individual differences
  • Monitors students’ understanding and adjusts teaching when appropriate
  • Provides evaluative feedback on student performance
  • Is available for out-of-class assistance
  • Establishes a safe and orderly classroom conducive to effective study and learning
  • Provides an environment in which students feel emotionally and physically secure
  • Helps students develop positive self-concepts
  • Directs and supervises the work of instructional assistants and other support personnel
  • Understands the rights and responsibilities of students, parents, and teachers
  • Works closely and positively with parents to guide the growth and development of children
  • Communicates goals and objectives for both program and students to parents and public, as appropriate
  • Provides opportunities for parent/community involvement in the school
  • Uses community resources in the instructional program, when available
  • Sets realistic goals for self, based on the reality of his/her situation
  • Acts as a positive behavior model for students
  • Works cooperatively and ethically with colleagues and administration
  • Is responsible for self-growth, professional improvement, and ongoing self-evaluation
  • Participates in professional growth activities
  • Attends staff meetings and shares the responsibility for serving on school and district committees
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies, program, and rules governing student life and conduct
