About The Position

The Primary Purpose of this role is to assist Alief ISD schools in providing consistent procedures and standards in the referral, coordination, and disability identification process for students referred to special education. The position supports the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students with disabilities and assists in maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of both state and federal guidelines.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • At least four (4) years as an SLP in public schools

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of all special education disability categories and educational impact of each disability
  • Knowledge of eligibility and dismissal criteria for speech language disorders in public schools
  • Knowledge of Alief processes and procedures for special education and speech services
  • Effective communication skills, human relation skills and leadership skills
  • Proficient in the use of digital tools including Google Suite, Excel, Microsoft 365, ARD/IEP software, SHARS billing software
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure campus speech pathologists follow consistent procedures and standards in assessments and therapy by providing phone support and training.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to campus SLPs and SLPAs helping them navigate complex cases and procedural issues.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for meeting all state and federal timelines and local operating procedures.
  • Conduct professional observations for campus SLPs and SLPAs and provide constructive feedback and assist in performance appraisals.
  • Assume campus speech pathologist responsibilities as needed due to vacancy or extended absence to ensure continuity of services and support for students with identified disabilities or students in the special education referral process.
  • Manage workloads of the bilingual assessment team and assign evaluations to the evaluators.
  • Review and monitor evaluations to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of assessment results and recommendations through constructive feedback in Case Consultation Committee meetings.
  • Ensure high standards of practice by organizing and assisting with staff training.
  • Participate in team review of special education referrals from campuses.
  • Monitor assigned campuses for compliance purposes and attend campus compliance meetings as needed.
  • Manage the paraprofessional assignments and schedules.
  • Monitor the SLP accountability course quarterly and assist with monitoring workloads.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Assist coordinator with recruitment, interviews and staffing as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding of new staff members.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide mentorship and/or supervision to a licensed SLP assistant or speech pathologist clinical fellow (CF).
  • Mentor fellow therapists when assigned.

Benefits

  • Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.
  • Salary is based on 197 days.
