About The Position

This role involves providing educational services and support to students with disabilities. The Special Education Job Coach assists students in work experiences, helping them secure placements, modify tasks, and develop employability skills. The Special Education Paraeducator supports students in various school settings, assisting with lesson preparation, instruction, classroom management, and communication with parents and staff. Both roles report directly to the Special Education Teacher and are crucial for student success and transition planning.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree OR 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and support for students to ensure success during work experiences.
  • Assist in securing job placements for students.
  • Analyze and modify job tasks to student skill level.
  • Provide employability skills instruction.
  • Conduct student observations and assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with worksite employees.
  • Assist with lesson plan preparation.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Assist with classroom management.
  • Communicate with parents and staff.
  • Supervise students.
  • Transport students to community worksites.
  • Collect data and report student progress.
  • Maintain accurate data collection records.
  • Provide positive behavior management support.
  • Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Participate as a member of the education team.
  • May attend parent conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
