About The Position

Maryville Elementary School (MES) is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Instructional Health Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves supporting students in an elementary school setting, with a focus on those with emotional behavior disorders. The ideal candidate will be organized, flexible, a team player, and dedicated to creating a positive and loving environment for every student. The position is responsible for assisting teachers and school staff with classroom instruction, providing behavioral support, and helping meet students’ health care needs in accordance with state laws and district policies. This role ensures students can fully access their educational program by assisting with academic, behavioral, and health-related needs. Patience, flexibility, and a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and medical needs are essential.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements: 48 college semester hours, an Associate’s Degree, OR a high school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.
  • Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.
  • Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small-group instruction is strongly desired.
  • New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience.
  • The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in daily instructional activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Provide academic support in small group and one-on-one settings.
  • Support implementation of IEP accommodations and behavior plans.
  • Assist with health-related tasks as directed by the school nurse or administration.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor and document student progress as directed.
  • Support students during transitions, lunch, and other school activities.
