About The Position

This course provides an overview of historical and social movements which have led to current inclusive teaching practices. The course critically assesses how society views ability and disability in educational contexts and challenges Teacher Candidates to consider how children are "differently-abled" rather than “disabled” by adopting a strengths-based perspective. Teacher Candidates will develop teaching practices to support all students. The course content will vary in its focus on curriculum expectations, learning, and teaching at the different grade levels, depending on Teacher Candidates’ program division (Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate).

Successful candidate will work with the course lead and/or team in order to provide consistency across sections.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Education
• Bachelor of Education and/or K – 10 Teaching Certification
• Ontario Teaching experience (K-6 experience for PJ sections, grades 4-10 for JI sections) working with children with exceptionalities and/or disabilities
• Education as a discipline
• Special Education as an area of specialization

Nice To Haves

• Doctoral degree in Education
• Post-secondary teaching experience in Special Education
• Leadership/scholarship in the area of Special Education
• Work as a Special Education Resource Teacher in Ontario schools
• Special Education Specialist AQ
