About The Position

The Special Education Facilitator serves students with varying disabilities; i.e. educable intellectually disabled, learning disabled, and emotionally handicapped, providing for the special educational needs of identified students. This position has the possibility of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or body fluids.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate subject endorsement and authorization level (if applicable)
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification may be required.
  • Knowledge of interventions, strategies, and programs to support the behavior of all students.
  • Knowledge of an ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
  • Working knowledge of special education due process requirement.
  • Ability to use appropriate behavior modification techniques with students.
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to problem solve and find solutions both independently and as an effective member of a work team.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret and explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, school handbooks and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical computations or apply standardized statistical procedures manually or by machine.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to make sound educational judgments including drawing conclusions and inferences from facts and/or premises which are logical.
  • Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.

Responsibilities

  • Chair and facilitate all IEP and special education meetings for students in assigned schools.
  • Manage educational programs for students with disabilities, including ensuring services are provided in regards to the education of students with disabilities at assigned schools.
  • Provide training in due process procedures, special education records management software, data collection, and effective programming for students with disabilities for teachers and administrators.
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Department special education transportation for students with disabilities who are in need of this related service.
  • Work with other special education facilitators and school staff to provide an orderly transition between schools for students with disabilities.
  • Assist testing coordinators and special education department chairs to provide appropriate testing environments for students with disabilities and to ensure appropriate accommodations are provided.
  • Assist administrators in the scheduling of students with disabilities so that schedules meet the requirements of the students’ IEPs and personnel are allotted appropriately.
  • Ensure that data is collected in relation to the goals and objectives included in the IEP and reviewed at least annually.
  • Ensure IEP progress reports on goals and objectives are provided to parents/guardians at least annually and are based on current data.
  • Complete educational screenings for students referred for special education assessment.
  • Coordinate the continuation of special services for transferring students with disabilities.
  • Establish positive working relationship with parents/guardians and school staff.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.
  • Maintain professional knowledge regarding current best practices in general and special education pertinent to the assigned school.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
  • Assist regular education teachers in the location and preparation of curriculum materials to support the student.
  • Monitor and evaluate academic and behavioral progress in cooperation with other teachers.
  • Facilitate special education eligibility as well as recommend future student placement.
  • Work cooperatively with the School Counseling Department and Special Education Teacher.
  • Coordinate services provided to the student with an IEP.
  • Manage all equipment identified in the IEP for students.
  • Support Special Education Teacher in developing data collection methods to related to the coordination , Development or Revision of IEP’s for verified students within the guidelines established by the School District and State and Federal governments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
