The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions. This position has primary responsibility for highly advanced legal work, and independently represents and advises the various divisions and commissions of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (“Agriculture”), in particular the Structural Pest Control and Pesticide Division and the Animal Welfare Section of the Veterinary Division. This position also independently represents Agriculture on novel and developing issues and in complex litigation when Agriculture is sued in State or Federal court. The position must master highly technical and scientific issues related to pesticide and other issues in order to successfully represent Agriculture. The position performs advanced legal work in the above-referenced areas, and the advanced nature of the work is continuous and complex. This position also performs advanced and complex litigation for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, either independently or as a lead on a team of several attorneys.
