About The Position
The SPD role supports Liberty Central Sterilization by cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment and instruments for patient care and clinical or surgical procedures. The employee uses manual or mechanical methods and follows designated processing procedures and the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Duties may include inspecting, assembling, or testing equipment before storage or transportation, and storing or assembling instruments into trays and case carts for distribution. The position also involves maintaining accurate processing documentation, ensuring equipment is available in a timely manner, reporting malfunctioning equipment and damaged instrumentation or supplies, and contributing to quality assurance, process improvement, and daily workflow efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No directly related experience required.
Nice To Haves
- Prior hospital experience.
- Sterile Processing coursework.
Responsibilities
- Clean equipment and instruments using manual or mechanical methods at the appropriate level for patient care.
- Store or assemble instruments into trays and case carts for distribution.
- Disinfect and/or sterilize equipment and instruments according to defined processes, equipment type, and manufacturer instructions for use.
- Inspect, assemble, and/or test equipment before storage or transportation, as applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure equipment is appropriately processed and timely available.
- Record and report malfunctioning equipment and damaged instrumentation, scopes, endoscopes, and other supplies.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and process improvement projects.
- Contribute to the efficiency of daily workflow.
- Perform high-level disinfection and/or sterilization of equipment and instruments for clinical and surgical procedures according to the designated processing team.
