About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for Spare Drivers to join their Residential Collection team in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This is an on-call position requiring the successful candidate to maintain open availability for dispatch 7 days a week to ensure operational coverage. Applicants must hold a minimum Class 5 license with an Air Brake Endorsement, with a Class 3 license being preferred. As a Solids Residential Driver, the individual will interact with residential communities daily, performing tasks that contribute to safer and cleaner living environments. The primary focus is to collect and transport waste from assigned residential routes to GFL facilities for proper disposal. This is a highly physical role, requiring the ability to repetitively lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Requirements

  • Must possess a Class 5 Driver's License with an Air Brake Endorsement
  • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper lifting techniques
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required

Responsibilities

  • Manually load recyclable waste into the rear or side of waste collection vehicle.
  • Operate a residential / recycling collection, side-load and hydraulic system to collect solid waste and/or recyclables on specified collection route.
  • Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures.
  • Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor, manner and appearance at all times (i.e., meeting customers and/or the general public while on route or in uniform.)
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed.
