About The Position

The Spanish Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned with the approved Spanish II course outline and for supporting student learning in a fully online environment. The instructor will develop and facilitate engaging instruction in intermediate Spanish language and culture, emphasizing listening, speaking, reading, writing, and intercultural competence. The instructor is expected to use Canvas effectively, provide timely feedback, maintain regular and substantive interaction with students, and assess course and institutional learning outcomes. This is a part-time, temporary, as-needed appointment to teach Spanish II online. The instructor must complete required course preparation before the term, participate in required adjunct meetings and training, follow department expectations, and maintain an active online presence throughout the course. Course materials, learning outcomes, and department policies will be provided or reviewed before instruction begins.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Spanish or a closely related field, or a master’s degree in another discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
  • Experience with or demonstrated readiness to teach effectively in an online learning environment.
  • Knowledge of intermediate Spanish language instruction, second-language acquisition, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of student-centered and active-learning strategies appropriate for community college students.
  • Knowledge of online course facilitation, accessibility, academic integrity, and effective use of learning technologies.
  • Knowledge of assessment practices that measure language proficiency and student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to design and facilitate organized, engaging, and accessible online learning experiences.
  • Ability to provide timely feedback and maintain consistent communication with students.
  • Ability to use Canvas, videoconferencing, and other instructional technologies effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate course records.
  • Ability to support and engage the broad range of learners served by a community college.
  • Skill in online communication, organization, and relationship-building.
  • Skill in teaching Spanish through varied media and interactive learning activities.
  • Skill in providing clear instructions, meaningful feedback, and consistent grading.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver online Spanish II instruction aligned with the approved course outline, learning outcomes, academic calendar, and college standards.
  • Use Canvas to organize course content, facilitate interaction, communicate expectations, assess learning, and maintain accurate grades.
  • Provide regular opportunities for students to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
  • Create an inclusive, student-centered online learning environment that supports students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparation.
  • Maintain regular and substantive interaction through announcements, discussions, feedback, virtual meetings, and other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate student work consistently, provide timely and constructive feedback, and submit grades by established deadlines.
  • Assess and document course, program, and institutional learning outcomes as required.
  • Communicate concerns about student progress and connect students with appropriate college resources.
  • Participate in required adjunct orientation, faculty meetings, and applicable professional development.
  • Comply with college policies, accessibility requirements, copyright standards, and applicable accreditation and federal distance education expectations.
