About The Position

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University is seeking a candidate for a CFS-track (analogous to tenure-track) teaching faculty position. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose teaching complements the existing literature and culture faculty. The initial rank will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, professional-track teaching position with a course load of 4-3-2 (27 credit-hours per year). While research and publication are not expected, the successful candidate must stay current in the field through professional development and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. The position requires relocation and/or residence in Utah for the duration of employment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Hispanic/Spanish literature, cultural studies, or equivalent (foreign degrees are acceptable). PhD in Portuguese, Comparative Literature, or a related field will be considered if the candidate can fulfill the duties/expectations of the position.
  • Required degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Experience teaching Spanish courses at the university level.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English.
  • Successful candidate must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching nine courses per year (27 credit hours), including a variety of undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Hispanic Literature, Cultures of Spain and Spanish America, and Third-Year Spanish Reading, Grammar, and Culture, or other courses based on expertise.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Participating in academic conferences and workshops to share and learn best practices in teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture.
  • Serving on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Working respectfully and collegially with all colleagues, including department faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, and student instructors.
