About The Position

The Bilingual Teacher assists students to communicate and understand their home language. They encourage students to practice vocabularies they’ve learned and assist them in accurately listening, speaking, writing and reading the home language. Teaches a minimal of 45 minutes in the language that is being taught and teaches the core Curriculum Content Standards in the English language, using ESL/ELD standards for students who do not demonstrate proficiency in English. Assists students with learning English and understands the culture of the students/community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid New Mexico elementary teaching license with endorsements in Bilingual Education and Modern, Classical and Native Languages.
  • Must be literate and fluent in the language being taught.

  • Adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.

  • Is available to parents, students, administration and peers outside the school day, if needed.
  • Attend extra-curricular activities.
  • Spend time beyond the school day grading, recording papers, planning instruction, etc.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Responsible for students on field trips.
  • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.
  • May supervise educational assistants, practicum students, student teachers, and high school vocational lab students.
  • Develop and use community and professional resources.
  • Understand and apply learning theories.
  • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate concern for student’s well-being and positive esteem.
