About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Process and Mechanical Reliability Specialist to join our team in the quartz mining industry. In this prominent hybrid role, you will act as the technical expert in our quartz sand screening plant to support the maintenance, design, and optimization of our mechanical systems and processes. In addition to playing a key role in ensuring our operational performance and driving efficiency improvements in a dynamic production environment, you will be the undisputed leader in integrating health and safety (Safety by Design) into all our engineering projects and will act as the direct liaison with the US Corporate office. Sitec North America Inc. has been operating a quartz mine at Petit Lac Malbaie since 1975, and is now part of the Cambria family, world leaders in the quartz countertop industry. In addition to countertop production, the quartz is also used in the metallurgical industry to produce ferro-silicon and silicon metal (metallurgical and solar grade). Activities include drilling, blasting, loading, and conveying, crushing, and screening, sorting, drying, bagging, and shipping.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ years of experience OR a College Diploma (DEC / Associate's Degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Metallurgy, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Solid hands-on experience (ideally 5+ years) in an industrial, manufacturing, or mining environment.
  • A strong and demonstrated passion for Occupational Health and Safety (EHS/OHS).
  • A highly hands-on approach with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • A strong collaborative mindset combined with the ability to work highly autonomously.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) as well as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Sheets, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) at an intermediate level is required for corporate communications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding mining environment and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and heavy machinery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate, design, and implement solutions with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all mechanical installations meet (or exceed) environmental and safety standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for senior management and external firms regarding EHS initiatives and engineering.
  • Design, modify, and update technical drawings using CAD software, ensuring that equipment and process documentation and manuals are accurate and readily accessible.
  • On a daily basis, record and analyze technical production data to formulate recommendations aimed at improving operations, upgrading processes, or replacing machinery.
  • Support the maintenance department in resolving complex mechanical and process issues (troubleshooting) and participate in the development of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Monitor the performance of mechanical systems and processes (sand screening) to identify opportunities to increase reliability and maximize equipment uptime.
  • Conduct site inspections and field observations to ensure systems are operating according to their design parameters.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements in mechanics and mining processes to promote and implement best practices.
