About The Position

Burnt Pine Country Club, the private club within Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort, is seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our culinary team. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supporting the Head Chef in the daily operation of the kitchen while ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, cleanliness, and service. The Sous Chef will work closely with the culinary team to execute member dining, special events, tournaments, private functions, and other club activities. The ideal candidate is a strong cook and natural leader who can confidently run a kitchen during service, develop team members, maintain organization, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional culinary experience, with previous Sous Chef or culinary leadership experience preferred.
• Experience in a private club, country club, upscale restaurant, resort, or hotel environment preferred.
• Strong hands-on cooking and food preparation skills.
• Experience with high-volume service, banquets, events, or large-scale food production is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food presentation, portion control, and kitchen operations.
• Ability to lead a team while remaining actively involved in daily kitchen production.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Culinary degree or formal culinary training preferred but not required.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
• Must be available to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to work for prolonged periods in a hot, humid, and fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, stretch, and twist.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull food products, equipment, cookware, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely maneuver around a busy kitchen while working around hot surfaces, sharp equipment, steam, and wet floors.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions, including chopping, stirring, mixing, lifting, carrying, and plating.
• Ability to use knives and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to climb stairs and move between kitchen, storage, banquet, and service areas as needed.
• Ability to maintain manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for food preparation and plating.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated storage areas and hot kitchen environments.
• Ability to work extended shifts and remain productive during periods of high-volume service.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef with the daily operation and supervision of the Burnt Pine kitchen.
• Lead and motivate culinary team members during daily service and special events.
• Be actively involved in food preparation, cooking, plating, and service.
• Ensure all menu items are prepared consistently according to recipes, specifications, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.
• Monitor food quality, taste, temperature, freshness, and presentation throughout service.
• Help coordinate kitchen operations for breakfast, lunch, dinner, banquets, tournaments, member events, holiday functions, and special occasions.
• Assist with menu preparation, daily specials, and seasonal offerings.
• Train, coach, and develop cooks and other culinary team members.
• Assign stations and responsibilities and ensure the kitchen is properly staffed and prepared for service.
• Monitor prep levels and ensure the kitchen is ready for each meal period.
• Assist with inventory, receiving, proper storage, labeling, dating, and rotation of food products.
• Help control food costs through proper portioning, inventory management, waste reduction, and responsible product usage.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with front-of-house leadership to ensure smooth and timely service.
• Respond professionally to member and guest requests or concerns involving food quality and special dietary needs.
• Assist with catering and special event execution throughout the club.
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Step into the Head Chef's responsibilities when needed and help maintain continuity of kitchen operations.
• Lead by example and contribute to a positive, professional, team-oriented kitchen culture.
