About The Position

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply to the Sous Chef opening within the University's Dining Services Department. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a pay rate of $23 to $25.00 per hour. The role involves working directly for the university, not a third-party food service company. The Sous Chef will be a member of the culinary management team, actively participating in food production in the Main Kitchen. This role supports the Production Chef (PC) by overseeing and training culinary and student staff in food preparation, recipe adherence, plating, presentation, and food safety guidelines. The position is located on the St. Paul campus in a cafeteria-style dining hall.

Requirements

Three years of advanced level food preparation experience in a hotel, university, resort, or a comparable hospitality industry setting.
Successful completion of a criminal background check is a condition of employment for this position.
This position works a flexible schedule based on business needs and could include nights and weekends.
This position is designated Emergency Essential. Emergency Essential employees may be expected to remain at work if campus closes during their regular work schedule or to report to work if the campus-closing announcement is made before their regular work schedule begins.

Responsibilities

Support the Production Chef (PC) as an active and working participant in food production in the Main Kitchen.
Oversee and train cooks and food service workers on how to properly follow recipes, plate and present food in an appropriate manner.
Ensure adherence to ServSafe food handling and food safety guidelines.
Delegate and supervise prep duties to culinary and student staff in a fast-paced, high volume kitchen.
