About The Position

AHMG Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiology at Orlando is seeking a part-time Sonographer to join their team. This role involves performing echocardiograms on pediatric and adult congenital cardiology patients, ensuring high-quality imaging and patient comfort. The Sonographer will operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, assess image quality, document patient history, and communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The position requires flexibility to float to various practice locations as needed and adherence to accredited laboratory protocols. The role also contributes to accreditation efforts and quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cardiac ultrasound.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
  • Ability to perform Pediatric Sonography, including complex studies.
  • Computer and word processing skills such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills across a variety of education levels.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude, conduct, and composure under pressure.
  • Ability to perform concomitant assignments in a timely manner and accommodate rapidly changing priorities.
  • Associate's degree in Diagnositic Medial Sonography.
  • Graduate from a CAAHEP accredited sonography program.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echocardiography (RDCS-AE) OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) OR Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS).
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to perform fetal echocardiography.
  • 2+ years experience in pediatric echocardiography.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Fetal Echocardiography (RDMS-FE).

Responsibilities

  • Follows accredited laboratory protocol for obtaining echocardiograms utilizing two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where appropriate.
  • Escorts patients and families from examination to the echocardiography room and back after completion of the study.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families prior to the commencement of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Maintains proper operation of ultrasound equipment, recognize equipment malfunctions, and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ensures specific echo machine probes are clean and ready to use at any time.
  • Assesses sonographic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Acquires and documents patient’s clinical history, including weight, height, blood pressure, and O2 SAT.
  • Provides instructions to achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Demonstrates a friendly environment providing comfort to patients based on age-specific needs.
  • Calls physician if unable to obtain images, patient agitation, or serious findings.
  • Helps with appropriate accreditation, including filling out forms, formal review of echo with physician’s evaluation, and quality assurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
