About The Position

The Sommelier acts as support to the Head Sommelier for the management of all aspects of the beverage division in accordance with Four Seasons standards. This person maintains the management and customer service philosophy that guides the work of the staff of his department. He/she will be responsible for assisting in the selection, training and engagement of all hotel food court employees. This person will be responsible for helping produce the wine and beverage list for the restaurant, the room service and banquets, as well as coordinating orders with suppliers and partners.

Requirements

  • Capacity to read, write in French and English; An intermediate level of English is required to provide professional service to international customers, understand their specific requests, and respond effectively.
  • College degree / certification in Hotel Management, Sommelier or related fields
  • Previous experience of 1 to 3 years in a similar position
  • Excellent knowledge of wine, beer, spirits and non-alcoholic options (WSET-2 or equivalent) with experience using POS (Point-of-Sale) systems
  • Ability to effectively oversee a large and diverse team
  • Trustworthy and helpful personality to all team members in various departments
  • Be organized, meticulous and resourceful
  • Be creative and have initiative
  • Be comfortable with having an atypical schedule with long hours and be available evenings and weekends
  • Ability to shift gears and into different areas of responsibilities comfortably
  • Ability to work in motion, mostly standing, and lift, pull or push loads up to 25kg.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in wines and spirits and ensure the quality of food, beverages, and preparation methods while complying with alcohol service laws.
  • Have full knowledge of all beverages offered (spirits, beers, non-alcoholic drinks) as well as the characteristics of wines, champagnes, glassware, and garnishes.
  • Follow up on orders to ensure they are delivered on time.
  • Stay informed of hotel arrivals/departures, VIPs, group reservations, and hotel activities.
  • Keep up to date with proper equipment maintenance and usage.
  • Assist with placing orders required for operational needs.
  • Contribute to coaching and training hourly employees.
  • Perform standard beverage tests and manage performance records.
  • Support efforts related to key performance indicators (LQA, Forbes, Medallia).
  • Participate in team training and accountability to maintain high performance results.
  • Ensure guest safety, well-being, and satisfaction, including handling emergencies.
  • Resolve guest complaints and maintain a high level of hospitality and professionalism.
  • Assist with wine/champagne inventory checks and menu availability.
  • Maintain a clean and collaborative work environment, represent Four Seasons positively, and perform any other related duties.
