Solution Architect-North Central

ClickHouse•Chicago, IL

About The Position

As an Enterprise Solutions Architect at ClickHouse, you will own the technical side of the sales cycle for enterprise accounts in the North Central United States. The role serves the Enterprise segment across the region; the ideal candidate is based in Minneapolis or Chicago. You will work with data platform engineers, architects, SREs, security stakeholders, and executives to design solutions that meet their needs and demonstrate that they can perform at production scale. A central part of the role is making migrations from incumbent systems credible. This includes designing architectures, running benchmarks against customers’ own data, and developing migration plans their engineering teams can execute. You will own technical evaluations from discovery through proof of concept or competitive bake-off, architecture sign-off, security review, and the first production workload. You will partner with Enterprise Account Executives, who own the commercial close, while you own the technical win. Prior pre-sales experience is helpful but not required; technical depth is essential.

Requirements

  • Deep technical foundation in data infrastructure, gained as a data engineer, platform engineer, software engineer, DBA, or solutions architect.
  • Production experience with analytical databases such as ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Druid, Pinot, or Vertica, including operating them.
  • Distributed systems judgment, including partitioning, replication, consistency trade-offs, query execution, and understanding failure under load.
  • Fluency across the modern data stack, including Kafka and CDC pipelines, orchestration, object storage, BI tools, and at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at the architecture level.
  • Experience running and winning a technical evaluation against a named competitor, including designing a migration off the incumbent.
  • Customer-facing experience with significant stakes, such as pre-sales, consulting, technical account management, or a staff-level engineering role involving customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with staff engineers and VP-level audiences.
  • Comfort managing longer enterprise sales cycles with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness to recommend against ClickHouse when it is not the right tool for a workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior pre-sales experience.
