About The Position

The Orange County Solid Waste Department has an opening for a Solid Waste Program Supervisor. The work involves the responsibility for performing administrative and supervisory work in overseeing and participating in the daily operations within a division of Solid Waste Management. An employee in this class is responsible for providing direct supervision as assigned to recycling collections, sanitation collection, or center operations and providing services to Orange County residents within the rules and regulations of County Ordinances and Solid Waste Management. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Manager with limited leeway to exercise independent judgment in performing assignments within strict guidelines and within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work. Assignments are provided by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Additional assistance is provided for unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. Supervision over others is required of this position. Does related work as required. This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. An SBI background Check is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business, environmental management, or closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of work experience in performing administrative and supervisory work in overseeing and participating in the daily operations of a solid waste program.
  • One (1) year of experience in the direct supervision of staff.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Successful clearance of an SBI background check.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
  • Satisfactory verification of eligibility for employment.
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required.
  • Submission and approval of all new hire documentation and completion of new hire paperwork.

Nice To Haves

  • A CDL is preferred, but not required.
