About The Position

The City of St. Peters is seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Solid Waste Supervisor to oversee daily collection operations for solid waste, recycling, and yard waste services. This role is responsible for supervising field staff, coordinating efficient route operations, and supporting service delivery through data-driven decision-making. The position combines leadership, operational planning, and active participation in collection activities to ensure high-quality service to the community.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized to work in the United States
  • High school diploma or GED and at least eight (8) years of related experience
  • Valid Class "A" CDL in the State of Missouri, or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment
  • Commercial Driver's Instruction Permit (CDIP) must be obtained within 60 days of employment
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds
  • Experience supervising a small group of employees
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
  • Proficiency in routing software, telemetry systems, or web-based data management tools
  • Completion of the City's supervisory course within one (1) year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, evaluate, and actively participate in the work of a solid waste collection crew
  • Plan, manage, and optimize daily collection routes using routing software and performance data
  • Oversee dispatch functions and ensure efficient service delivery across assigned routes
  • Assist in developing work schedules and improving operational efficiencies
  • Provide on-the-job training related to safety, equipment use, and work procedures
  • Operate and perform minor maintenance on collection vehicles and equipment
  • Monitor route performance and prepare reports to identify and implement process improvements
  • Respond to resident inquiries, concerns, and service-related issues in a professional manner
  • Support procurement efforts, including researching and recommending capital equipment
  • Conduct inspections for compliance, including curbside, commercial, and recycling programs
  • Assist with specialized recycling initiatives and community programs
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, conduct daily safety meetings, and monitor incidents and inspections
  • Maintain oversight of commercial hauling permits and insurance documentation
