About The Position

This position is responsible for performing day-to-day operational management duties for a small functional unit which provides routine programs and services in any of a large variety of departments and agencies, with responsibility for planning, coordinating, supervising and controlling assigned resources to achieve unit/section objectives. Hillsborough County is seeking a Senior Supervisor for Scalehouse Operations to oversee day-to-day operational management duties for two (2) scalehouses with six (6) direct reports that are responsible for providing daily customer service, cashiering, cash collection and report reconciliation functions for the Solid Waste Management Department.

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year degree granting college or university; AND Two years of experience directly related to the position’s duties; OR An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
  • Must have integral knowledge of Hillsborough County Clerk’s Office Cash Handling and Collection Procedures.
  • Strong data management and computer skills.
  • Solid knowledge of CompuWeigh/Weigh Station, Oracle and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to perform fiscal support and quality assurance, including cash collection audits at assigned scalehouses.
  • Ability to assign duties and manage employee production.
  • Ability to determine operational needs of assigned scalehouses including inventory, staffing requirements and building maintenance.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
  • Possess the necessary job-related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the unit/section, coordinates and administers assigned programs and resources.
  • Sets direction and priorities and allocates staff and resources to projects and unit initiatives.
  • Provides supervision, guidance, training and motivation to assigned staff; assigns, monitors and reviews work; evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as needed, including termination.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the unit's activities.
  • Implements goals, policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure operational efficiency and effective administration of unit.
  • Monitors work flow, data accuracy, and overall quality of work; assures processes and procedures are accomplished according to established guidelines.
  • Assesses staffing needs and identifies shortfalls; interviews, recruits and hires new staff.
  • Participates in budget development by providing detailed justification and persuasive arguments for proposals or unit initiatives, but has no direct budget approval responsibility.
  • Coordinates with other branches/sections within own organization and external agencies/departments to ensure efficient flow of communications and services.
  • Provides consultation to customers on matters relating to functional area.
  • Prepares a variety of documents for the purpose of documenting activities and administering assigned programs and resources.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
