About The Position

This position will operate several vehicles and equipment utilized in the collection and disposal of solid waste; collect solid waste on a specific commercial or residential route; deposit collected refuse and debris at the city landfill, and ensure that collection vehicles are properly equipped and serviced for routes. Primary work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, or 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. As workload demands; may work as early as 5:00 AM and as late as 5:00 PM, with some overtime, Saturdays, and holidays required.

Requirements

Ability to work holiday shifts, and Saturday shifts as scheduled.
Ability to withstand exposure to extreme and variable weather conditions.
Possession of an appropriate valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Operate rear load, automated side load, front load, roll-off, hook-lift, and bulk trucks, as well as any other powered equipment used in the collection, recycling, and disposal of commercial and residential solid waste (trash, recyclable materials, and yard waste).
Assist in routine maintenance of division vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
Participate in the manual labor collection of waste and debris; lift and carry moderate to heavy waste materials for short durations of time.
Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles and equipment.
Conduct daily preventive and routine maintenance checks of the assigned vehicles and equipment.
Provide leadership on assigned routes.
