Under general supervision, responsible for performing manual, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of equipment as assigned in the delivery and disposal of solid waste refuse. Work varies however, does require individual judgment within prescribed standards and procedures. These positions require flexibility to work Saturdays when scheduled as part of the regular 40-hour work week. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to loud noise, dust, odors, vibration, heat, cold, dampness, moving mechanical parts, traffic, and solid waste materials in all seasons and weather conditions. This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and climbing into and out of vehicles and equipment. Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull containers, equipment, and materials weighing up to 75 pounds, and heavier items with assistance or mechanical aids. Employees may be exposed to hazards, chemicals, and infectious waste. Hand-eye and manual coordination are required to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment safely. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
