About The Position

The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department is seeking a Solid Waste Collector Driver. This role involves collecting and transporting solid waste and/or recyclable materials from residential and commercial properties. Responsibilities may include operating automated side loaders, front-end loaders, rear loaders, and other vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Unit Supervisor, with opportunities for independent judgment. Supervision or acting as a leadworker may be part of the responsibilities depending on the assignment. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program, FMCSA Clearinghouse clearance, a Fitness for Duty Assessment, a background check, and a recent MVR. The work location is 1207 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC.

Requirements

• Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency.
• Two (2) years of related experience in the operation of solid waste collection or sanitation vehicles.
• Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the State of North Carolina.
• Successful clearance of the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
• Successful pre-employment drug testing.
• Successful completion of a Fitness for Duty Assessment.
• Successful background check.
• Recent MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).

Responsibilities

• Collecting and transporting solid waste and/or recyclable materials from residential and commercial properties.
• Operating automated side loaders, front-end loaders, rear loaders, and other vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B.
• Performing duties within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Potentially supervising or acting as a leadworker depending on the assignment.
