About The Position

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Solder and Rework Technician to provide critical technical support for high-reliability assembly and repair of electronic assemblies. This role involves close collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to execute complex soldering, rework, and assembly tasks. The Applied Technology department is a prototyping center specializing in proof-of-concept and low-volume advanced communications products for government and industry customers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

Requirements

  • Active or recent certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) or J-STD-001.
  • Proficiency with stereo microscopes, high-magnification scopes, hot-air rework stations, vacuum desoldering tools, and thermal tweezers.
  • Experience reading schematics, blueprints, bill of materials (BOM), and mechanical drawings.
  • Solid understanding of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control protocols and lead-free (RoHS) vs. leaded solder processes.
  • High manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and visual acuity to work under magnification for extended periods.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contracts.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in high-reliability electronics assembly, solder rework, and PCBA troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fine-pitch surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (PTH) soldering, desoldering, removal, and replacement down to 0201/0402 components, QFPs, and BGAs.
  • Repair damaged PCB traces, pads, eyelets, ground planes, and laminate surfaces.
  • Perform precision wire stripping, tinning, splicing, pin crimping, and direct-to-board wiring or connector termination.
  • Follow engineering change orders (ECOs), assembly drawings, schematics, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
