About The Position

The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an 11-month paid service term opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic community members to join GRID Alternatives. This role offers valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while contributing to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice. GRID Alternatives is a national leader in making clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color. The SolarCorps Workforce Technical Training Fellow will engage with the workforce team to support GRID’s workforce development initiatives. Members will be trained and supervised by GRID's workforce development team to provide employability skills and job opportunities in solar to the community. They will support GRID’s solar job training programs by assisting the technical training team in teaching the solar training curriculum in classrooms, labs, and project job sites, and supporting the Workforce Development coordinators/admin with recruitment efforts and placement support. As trainees gain education and experience, members also gain transferable skills in solar installation and program management within the renewable energy, education, and nonprofit industries.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • Availability for an in-person Mid-Year weeklong Career Readiness Retreat in California

Nice To Haves

  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Google, Calendaring

Responsibilities

  • Assist in teaching solar and clean energy workshops and labs
  • Attend local events to promote community awareness of GRID’s training programs
  • Assist in trainee installation days
  • Participate in solar installations

  • Stipend pay of $40,800 over 11 months (Approx $21.40/hr)
