About The Position

The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an 11-month paid service opportunity for motivated individuals to gain experience in the renewable energy and non-profit sectors while contributing to communities disproportionately affected by environmental and economic injustice. GRID Alternatives is a leader in making clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color. The organization is entrepreneurial and high-growth, offering direct solar installation, project development, clean mobility options, workforce training, service learning, and policy advocacy. This specific role focuses on engaging with the construction team in solar PV installation, with members serving directly on low-income solar projects and gaining experience that can lead to careers in solar installation, permitting, and design. Both standard and AmeriCorps fellowships are available.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment
  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures.
  • A passion for environmental justice and clean energy
  • Willingness to learn skills on the job
  • Be comfortable in working with diverse communities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • For AmeriCorps eligibility: U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in solar PV installation, service calls, inspections, site visits and system commissioning
  • Support in material procurement preparation for staging and load equipment before and after installation projects
  • Assist staff with installation package preparation
  • Help organize and maintain project information in Salesforce
  • Assist staff with preliminary designs
