About The Position

Gemma is seeking a Solar Project Manager (PM) to lead the execution of utility-scale solar projects from Notice to Proceed through commercial operation. You will be responsible for all project-based decisions within your level of authority as determined by senior leadership. The Solar PM will own project goals, execution decisions, and foster strong client, subcontractor, labor, and stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management; or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience with solar power generation or other large-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Must be able to work full-time from the project site in a field-based environment throughout the duration of construction.
  • Training in cost & production forecasting, and project financials.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, etc., plus an in-depth understanding of interdependence & relationship between other functional units.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license and consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
  • Proven ability to lead & work with a team.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Understands the business implications of decisions and possesses the ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to identify & resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Willing & able to travel as needed to Gemma’s primary office (CT), vendor or owner meetings, conferences, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with EPC companies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary onsite representative for all project matters, maintaining proactive and effective communication with the Owner.
  • Ensure overall construction safety, environmental requirements, and project quality requirements are met and documented.
  • Oversee all aspects of solar project delivery including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes and provide direction to ensure adherence to project schedules & budget.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all construction activities specific to utility-scale solar, including site preparation, pile driving, module installation, tracker systems, DC/AC electrical systems, inverter stations, and substation/switchyard work.
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors, review proposals, and assist in negotiating & executing project contracts while ensuring the best interests of Gemma are protected.
  • Provide contract oversight to ensure fulfillment of key contract requirements, including reviewing monthly invoices with the Owner and compiling monthly progress reports.
  • Manage onsite personnel including field staff, craft labor, subcontractors, and address any personnel issues that arise.
  • Provide estimating support for field activities, production rate analysis, budgeting, and labor planning.
  • Ensure accurate project forecasting by collaborating with Superintendents on updated completion estimates and production metrics.
  • Manage the site personnel and procurement teams to ensure proper subcontract management and timely execution.
  • Ensure timely & cost-effective procurement of equipment, materials and subcontractors.
  • Organize & lead subcontract coordination meetings, staff coordination meetings, and weekly project status meetings.
  • Interface with the Owner's Engineer, independent engineers, and utility representatives regarding interconnection, commissioning, and project turnover requirements.
  • Drive commissioning and energization activities, coordinating with electrical subcontractors, OEM representatives, and the Owner to achieve milestones.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Develop the site staff, train an Assistant Project Manager.
