WSP is currently seeking an experienced Soils Inspector Specialist to join their team in Los Angeles, CA. This position is imminent and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply immediately. The qualified candidate(s) will work at various client construction project sites in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas inspecting and assessing construction activities. This role involves assisting with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, structural plans, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, material sampling, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for field inspection activities. Under minimal supervision, the inspector will use survey instruments, metering devices, and test equipment to perform basic inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, construction, materials, controls, resources, layout, alignment, and elevation to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits. The role provides routine technical assistance that accounts for the proper inspection, construction, and functioning of buildings, highways, roads, bridges, structures, infrastructure, equipment, and/or mechanical systems according to design standard specifications. The inspector will assist with verifying load calculations, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing basic construction, engineering, or survey problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution. They will attend pre-construction meetings and assist with answering questions from contractors and other attendees, and assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed. The role also involves assisting with ensuring adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects, ensuring that material tests are performed, and materials meet required standards. The inspector will generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications related to inspection findings using electronic systems, written/oral feedback, photographs, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports. Compliance with client policies and procedures for inspection work under contract, and safety guidelines and site-specific procedures is required. The role includes completing training on assigned tasks, exhibiting basic knowledge of current field inspection practices, and working collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks. The inspector will exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities may be required by business needs.
